The largest retailers already had BOPIS (Buy Online Pickup In Store) for a variety of reasons.  Convenience for the customer of not having items shipped to their homes, ability to sell a larger selection of items from E-Commerce without having to stock in-store, enticing customers to come into the store after making their online purchase, etc.
